Our Journey

As Managing Producer and Lighting Designer, I enjoyed the success of many theatre productions and explored the craft of lighting with talented and experienced professionals. I became a Founding Member of Suitcase In Point Theatre Company in 2001, and continue to work with this talented group of creative theatre artists several times a year. Working as a ‘friendly’ at the Shaw Festival Theatre allowed me to further educate myself, learning from some of the best technicians in the country.

When I moved back to Windsor in 2005, I spent several years as technical director for the Windsor International Film Festival, The Windsor International Fringe Festival, Media City International Film & Video Festival, and continued producing lighting designs for many local plays. In 2007 I joined Breathe Art Theatre Project as Artistic Partner and Lighting Designer, and worked with some of the best theatre professionals in the area on critically acclaimed productions of contemporary theatre in Detroit and Windsor.

I had also been lighting music videos and local television shows for years and became interested in working on a feature film when Otto Buj approached me with his new project, Primordial Ties, in 2008. The tremendous challenges and creative energy of lighting such a stylized and mysteriously beautiful film had me hooked. I felt as if it made sense; I was energized and full of passion. Since then, I’ve worked on many film and video projects and feature films like The Birder (2013) and The Performance (2015). I am also a proud member of IATSE Local 580.

Experience and passion for the craft of lighting are what sets Max Watts Lighting & Grip apart.
